Winter Carnival!

Celebrate and embrace the cooler temperatures.

Do you have a case of the winter blues? We sure do! The grey skies and cool temperatures don’t leave a lot of room for fun outdoor activities. Or maybe they do. Why not plan an old-fashioned Winter Carnival? You could enlist friends and family to make it fun and a huge success. Here are some ideas to inspire you:

  • Contact a local park and see what permits are needed to host the event. Select a date, invitations and get going! Put together a small committee to help with preparations. Make a list of vendors and start gathering contacts. Be creative in your selections and include food and merchandise. If you want to give the carnival a homey feel, you could ask local Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops to participate. Maybe they could help direct partygoers or host a hot chocolate stand? In addition, invite local schools to contribute choral or band groups to the festivities.
  • You will need tables, tableware and coolers. If you host a lot of gatherings, then buying these might make sense. Storing them won’t be a problem since we have lots of room.
  • Purchase large poster board, markers, and heavy-duty tape. Gather neighborhood children and ask them to help with signage. It will be fun to see what they come up with and the kids will give the event a family feel.
  • Sit back and enjoy the fun! Make notes on what went right and wrong for a repeat performance next winter. Take lots of pictures to post on social media, so you have many more participants and helpers in 2018!

Consult one of our storage specialists on your needs, and they will help select a unit. Considering how accessible our units are, you will think they are an extension of your home. The New Year is here! We’ve got you covered with a self-storage unit.

Storage Tips

1
Plan ahead. Place items you may need to get to often in the front of your space. Allow for walkways if you'll need periodic access to items. Make an inventory of your stored items and keep it in a safe place at home, or in a safe deposit box.
2
For easy stacking, use uniform-sized boxes. Be sure they are strong enough to hold 20 to 30 pounds.
3
List contents on all four sides of the box. Number the boxes and seal them with cello tape, fiber tape or glued paper tape. Use inventory sheets to track the boxes. Wrap dishes and glasses in plain paper and pack them in sturdy boxes. Set these boxes on top of the others.
4
Use furniture drawers to hold delicate items. Wrap them in bubble wrap or newspaper.
5
Do not store anything combustible (such as paint and chemicals) or perishable (such as food that is not permanently sealed). When storing lawn and garden equipment, drain any fluids prior to storage in order to avoid corrosive damage.
6
Break down items (such as table legs) and store large furniture (like tabletops and sofas) on end to save space.
7
Always use high-quality locks on your unit. Cover mattresses and store them flat on level surfaces.
8
Use trash cans to store shovels, hoes and rakes.
9
Blankets, towels, tablecloths and clothing can be packed inside large appliances. When packing toys or smaller objects, remember to fill boxes completely, stuffing open areas with plain newspaper to prevent collapsing when stacked.
