Celebrate and embrace the cooler temperatures.
Do you have a case of the winter blues? We sure do! The grey skies and cool temperatures don’t leave a lot of room for fun outdoor activities. Or maybe they do. Why not plan an old-fashioned Winter Carnival? You could enlist friends and family to make it fun and a huge success. Here are some ideas to inspire you:
- Contact a local park and see what permits are needed to host the event. Select a date, invitations and get going! Put together a small committee to help with preparations. Make a list of vendors and start gathering contacts. Be creative in your selections and include food and merchandise. If you want to give the carnival a homey feel, you could ask local Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops to participate. Maybe they could help direct partygoers or host a hot chocolate stand? In addition, invite local schools to contribute choral or band groups to the festivities.
- You will need tables, tableware and coolers. If you host a lot of gatherings, then buying these might make sense. Storing them won’t be a problem since we have lots of room.
- Purchase large poster board, markers, and heavy-duty tape. Gather neighborhood children and ask them to help with signage. It will be fun to see what they come up with and the kids will give the event a family feel.
- Sit back and enjoy the fun! Make notes on what went right and wrong for a repeat performance next winter. Take lots of pictures to post on social media, so you have many more participants and helpers in 2018!
